Philosophy of Mind
The philosophy of mind course is an upper-division course that covers a broad range of topics in the philosophy of mind from Descartes to the modern developments in the science of consciousness. I run this course as an open discussion, with lectures on the main arguments/concepts of the work we’re covering. Students bring questions ready for discussion and we spend most of the time discussing the work. For my upper-division courses I also incorporate a number of essay workshopping elements, and make sure that their analytic writing skills are developed alongside the new content they learn in the course.
For a detailed list of the readings (which are updated annually) please see the attached syllabus.

[The student was correct, there never were donuts, and it’s something I’ll be improving for future semesters]
